HISTORY
Born into a wealthy family sprung from one of House Rhia's many tiny tributaries, Amalea always enjoyed a life of relative privilege. Growing up, she was granted excellent tutors and developed an early love of the written word; in time, she settled on histories, and began to show a promising magical talent. She focused on both in equal measure, studying history for pleasure, leafing through all the accounts and ancients texts she could get ahold of with her free time -- while her formal tutoring focused more on cultivating her magical abilities, which soon revealed themselves to be unique in nature -- not only did she show ability in the elemental fields, but in the rarer study of light magic, as well.

Always one to preen over anything that made her singularly special, Amalea focused on developing her skill with light magic, though she was carely not to neglect the elementals, either. She pleased her tutors and her parents both, and her family's wealth, her own magical skill and increasingly comprehensive historical knowledge soon made her a viable candidate to appeal for a position with the household proper of the prodigious core of the Family Rhia.

She landed a tutoring position with ease. Her expansive knowledge, easy confidence, and -- some said -- above average good looks soon found her charged with the task of educating Lord Craig's own grandchildren, and it didn't take long for one among the many to single themselves out to her, in particular. Lady Eriena, a girl who by Rhian standards was quite withdrawn and very proper, showed early promise in the study of Light magic, and Amalea took her eagery under her wing, while still teaching history to many, less significant others.

Eriena and Amalea got along famously well, with the former generously turning a blind eye to some of Amalea's less savory traits in exchange for perfect propriety from her -- during the daylight, at least. In later years, recalling the arrangement would make Amalea wonder if it contributed to what came next; Eriena was looked down upon by many of her sisters and cousins, and that Amalea would choose her to be "teacher's pet," after a fashion, no doubt irked some. Her beauty and penchant for flirting with the boys -- sometimes to better success than the noble girls themselves -- hardly helped, either.

Still, it was some surprise to be accused of thievery, after many years of loyal service, by many of the girls under her charge. Her case was dealt with quickly -- missing items she swore never to have touched were found among her things, and she could never say how they had gotten there -- but even in the short time it took, it became a great messy scandal, tales of it spreading like wildfire throughout the city. Her parents were disgraced; they cut her out of their fortunes, relenting only slightly in later years (though she is known to say, with grim determination, that she is "working on them.") She herself became an outcast, an utter pariah, completely untouchable for fear of incurring Lord Craig's ire at showing her mercy.

Unemployable and more than a little angry, Amalea sat upon what fortunes she had saved, in her years living the high life -- and they were enough to live off, for many years thereafter. It was a lifestyle she was not particularly used to or fond of, though, and years of living like a pauper have muted her more proper traits, and sharpened her more questionable ones, throughout the years. Once the scandal had had sufficient time to burn itself out and fade from the minds of the people, she found she could get work, again -- but never in anything prestigious, or particularly well paying.

So she lived, for a great many years, until her once-favorite pupil the Lady Eriena arranged an opportunity for her, quite unexpectedly, to work as an assistant in a curious shop, whose most striking feature was an even more curious sign ...

NO APHRODESIACS.

She never thought twice about accepting the charge.

PERSONALITY
Amalea is a two-sided coin; by day, she is a very focused, proper, and insightful woman, well read and well learned. She knows the ins and outs of proper conduct, has always been lightning-quick at picking up on details, however small, and is very quick with scathing criticism or rosy praise -- whatever is appropriate. She has a sharp tongue and knows how to use it... but generally, she knows perfectly well when not to, too. She knows her manners and how to carry herself with surprising poise; it's only a matter of whether or not she chooses to do so, at any given time.

By night, however, Amalea is a good-humored, earthy woman with a taste for good wine, late-night parties, and company roughly half her age -- especially men. As an older woman, herself, Amalea takes advantage of her looks -- which place her at least ten years younger than her years -- to seize onto lost youth, and can be a notorious flirt, teasing and intriguing handsome young men, most of whom young enough to be her sons, if she had ever cared to have any.

She harbors her fair share of bitterness toward the Rhian nobility as a whole, who were all so eager to point fingers and oust her from the best opportunity she ever had. She blames much of the unenviable way her life has turned out on them, though why she never thought to leave the city is a mystery to everyone, including her.

There's simply no place like Rhia, she's known to sigh to herself, with dramatic flair.

APPEARANCE
Amalea, while well into middle aged, looks the part of a woman at least ten years younger. Her hair is a playful pink color, her eyes blue, and despite everything, she carries herself with the poise of a scholar and the confidence of a woman who knows precisely what she wants, and how to get it.
